Harper Privatizes Canada’s Nuclear Power

You have got to be kidding. It’s bad enough the Liberals sold Candu reactors to Communist China who in turn were able to sell nuclear weapon technology and materials to any one they wanted. Now Harper privatizes Canada’s nuclear power.

OK we have beef with you privatizing our power in the first place. That is dumb and removing public accountability from our power means less sovereignty over our own nation.

Notwithstanding that, let’s pause for one second and consider what could possibly be wrong with privatizing our nuclear power. Removal of public accountability is one thing but is goes much further. You privatize something and it’s mandated to make a profit. When Ontario privatized their power the consumer rates skyrocketed.

Nevertheless, the real problem arises when you make a nuclear power company private and mandated to make a profit. When you sell nuclear reactors you sell the technology and materials to make nuclear warheads. If you are mandated to make a profit there is no moral guideline who to sell that technology too.

It is Blackwater revisited. Mercenaries for hire all in the name of the almighty dollar. God help us.
Oh and don’t forget that TILMA makes it illegal for any level of government to create a law that would inhibit a private company’s ability to make a profit. Privatizing Canada’s faulty nuclear reactors would make them exempt from laws that protect the environment like dumping nuclear waste.
.
Oh and here’s an update. Turns out the government has been pouring money into the aging Chalk River nuclear reactor: http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/abc/home/contentposting.aspx?isfa=1&feedname=CTV-TOPSTORIES_V3&showbyline=True&date=true&newsitemid=CTVNews%2f20090602%2fraitt_documents_090602
Now they want to sell that public asset to one of their friends in the private sector and somehow they call it good business.

Jesus didn’t tap

A few weeks ago my daughter pointed out a bumper sticker on a car parked out front of the UFC combat clothing store in Surrey. It said, "Jesus didn’t tap." We both had a chuckle over that.

People have different images of Christ. Personally, I don’t see him as a femmie pacifist. I see him as a strong activist. Although Gandhi was physically frail, he was clearly a strong activist even though he was passionately nonviolent.

The Jesus never tapped out saying came as a bit of a surprise but it did make sense. History records that he was whipped and nailed to a cross. Josephus records that. Then there was the doctrine of the atonement how he bled from every pour in the Garden of Gethsemane. There is no doubt Christ had to be incredibly mentally and physically strong to endure all that.
.
A Muslim friend once recommend I watch the movie the Passion of Christ. I was surprised to hear the recommendation come from a Muslim. He said to me, I wonder why God allowed all that to happen to one of his prophets. Some believe that bad things don’t happen to good people and if you are disabled or are experiencing trials, God is punishing you. I don’t subscribe to that belief at all.

According to the religious tradition Christ came for a purpose. I do shun religious extremism. Many in the born again movement shout slogans and live the life of intolerance. Yesterday driving back from the lake we saw a billboard that read "Jesus Saves." I had a twisted thought pop through my mind and before I could vocalize it my daughter reads the sign out load and says, "Jesus Saves at Zellers."

Yeah he must be pretty good with his money I respond. I guess it’s the sappy side of religion I have beef with. Christ spoke pretty boldly against the religious leaders in his day. Not to say that all religious leaders are bad. It’s the blind obedience to hypocrisy I have beef with. God gave us a brain for a reason. For many, over analyzing or intellectualizing everything can be our own personal downfall yet for many others not using our brain is their downfall.

I had a friend who had a T-shirt that said "Jesus loves you but everyone else thinks you’re an idiot." Slightly sacrilegious perhaps yet I did find humor in it. Personally I believe in good and evil. Call it what you will. Evil can infiltrate and corrupt people and organizations both from within and from without. I believe we should shun evil and strive to do good. To me that means opposing exploitation, supporting the less fortunate and living productive lives of service. Of that Mother Teresa was the perfect example.

Politicians abuse expense accounts in England

This is no big surprise. More politicians abusing expense accounts. Only we heard about it because we have a democratic system. Many are concerned that when Brussels takes over the EU this documented abuse of taxpayers money will continue and the public just won’t hear about it. http://econtact.libertas.eu/t/r/l/thvlu/cjikrdrj/y

Iggy Me Not

Well the conservatives have come out strong with their attack ads on Ignatieff: http://www.ignatieff.me/

They must be worried the federal liberals are climbing the polls. I’ll admit I hate Ignatieff and think he’s an absolute devil but the conservatives are pissing me off too. Everything you get from them is all about them. Vote for us us us because they are bad bad bad. Every time they put anything out or answer anything that is what they say. Same with the Liberals and most of the political parties. It’s all about them.

That fact makes the conservatives attack add web site on Imoteff somewhat ironic. They say Imotph is arrogant and thinks it’s all about him. Which is absolutely true but they aren’t much better. Every political party thinks it’s all about them. The people have been lost in the propaganda.

Suspicious Suicides

There have been a long line of suspicious suicides surrounding the CIA and MI6 lately. I will cite three.

Garry Webb:

Barry Jennings: http://finiansworld.blogspot.com/2009/01/barry-jennings-suspicious-death.html

David Kelly: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-1131243/PETER-OBORNE-Five-years-Hutton-STILL-havent-told-truth-war-based-lies.html

Lord Hutton? You mean Lord Vader. Hutton Inquiry, 9/11 Commission, Warren Commission. Same papers different pile.

I encourage people to become familiar with these cases. It is also prudent to become familiar with the Arkansas case where a corner knowingly falsified a murder claiming it was a suicide: http://finiansworld.blogspot.com/2008/10/arkansas-train-deaths.html

The Dark Knight

I finally saw Dark Knight with Heath Ledger. He sure did an amazing job playing the villain. I’m saddened by his death and the mysterious circumstances surrounding it. I think his best role was in A Knight’s Tale. He was great in that too.

I’m not much into Batman, Superman or Spiderman movies but Dark Knight intrigued me. The whole concept of wearing down a good person until they fall to the dark side was interesting. What would we do if we lost everything we loved? Become bitter? Turn vindictive or malicious? I still contend that torture is wrong. That is the first line that should not be crossed if our ideals aspire to something higher than that of our enemies.

It’s interesting how actors can play such contrasting roles. Russell Crowe in Gladiator and in A Beautiful Mind are prime examples of two very different characters played by a talented actor. Similar to Heath Ledger’s roles in Dark Knight and A Knight’s Tale.

Another interesting character is Mel Gibson. His pinnacle role was clearly Braveheart. Courage, loyalty, fidelity. Those are noble characteristics. His anti semetic comments in a drunken tirade was somewhat shocking after his riveting job directing the Passion of Christ. Then the recent news of how he’s leaving the mother of his six children for some playboy lingerie bimbo. What’s with men and silicone anyways?

I was commenting on how that really didn’t fit in with his loyalty and fidelity in Braveheart. Then my daughter reminded me of the role he played in What Women Want. A funny movie but a somewhat less idealistic character. I had to concur that these are just actors playing roles. Interesting indeed. I still think it’s good to aspire to something higher.

When I think of Dark Knight I think of that MI6 director John Scarlett who was granted knighthood just for being MI6. Somewhat suspicious when we see MI6’s role in Operation Mass Appeal planting false evidence in the media against Iraq to justify an invasion. Then there was MI6’s botched false flag operation in Iraq:

http://finiansworld.blogspot.com/2008/12/anarchy-in-uk-revisited.html

Somehow I just see the MI6 as dirty and the appointment of John Scarlett to Knighthood simply as the Dark Knight: http://finiansworld.blogspot.com/2008/09/missing-link.html

Do not go gentle into the night. Rage, Rage against the Dark Knight.

Clear Cutting

Just after the first world war many strong men in the Vancouver area logged by hand with saws and horses. They selectively harvested the forest and as a result we still have the forests to enjoy today. Lynn Canyon and Allouette Mountain are perfect examples.

Yesterday I took my daughter to lunch at Molly’s Reach in Gibson. They had some old photos of Gibson on the wall. Among the photos were some loggers harvesting trees with horses in 1918. That’s how they would do it. They would select large trees, cut them down and haul them out by horseback. Then they would use the waterways or the railroad to haul them out.

Today it’s all about the money and we rape the landscape by clearcutting everything in site. That’s were soil erosion problems occur. What ever happened to tree planting? Companies that are allowed to clear cut should be required to plant trees and reforest the area for future generations. Ireland used to have forests. After it was clear cut in became a bog.

Green Timbers Forestry centre is gone. Has tree planting become another casualty of the Campbell government? http://tobiaslawrence.bcndp.ca/news/campbell’s-government-continues-neglect-bc-forests

I noticed that the Clayoquot Sound issue is being revisited and we have heard next to nothing about it. Trees provide more than just scenery. They provide oxygen for us to breathe. If paper costs more to produce then what it's sold for then maybe we should look at other alternatives before we rape our landscape for nothing.
