Harper Privatizes Canada’s Nuclear Power

You have got to be kidding. It’s bad enough the Liberals sold Candu reactors to Communist China who in turn were able to sell nuclear weapon technology and materials to any one they wanted. Now Harper privatizes Canada’s nuclear power.

OK we have beef with you privatizing our power in the first place. That is dumb and removing public accountability from our power means less sovereignty over our own nation.

Notwithstanding that, let’s pause for one second and consider what could possibly be wrong with privatizing our nuclear power. Removal of public accountability is one thing but is goes much further. You privatize something and it’s mandated to make a profit. When Ontario privatized their power the consumer rates skyrocketed.

Nevertheless, the real problem arises when you make a nuclear power company private and mandated to make a profit. When you sell nuclear reactors you sell the technology and materials to make nuclear warheads. If you are mandated to make a profit there is no moral guideline who to sell that technology too.

It is Blackwater revisited. Mercenaries for hire all in the name of the almighty dollar. God help us.
Oh and don’t forget that TILMA makes it illegal for any level of government to create a law that would inhibit a private company’s ability to make a profit. Privatizing Canada’s faulty nuclear reactors would make them exempt from laws that protect the environment like dumping nuclear waste.
.
Oh and here’s an update. Turns out the government has been pouring money into the aging Chalk River nuclear reactor: http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv.ca/abc/home/contentposting.aspx?isfa=1&feedname=CTV-TOPSTORIES_V3&showbyline=True&date=true&newsitemid=CTVNews%2f20090602%2fraitt_documents_090602
Now they want to sell that public asset to one of their friends in the private sector and somehow they call it good business.
