Lest We Forget

Remembrance Day is a time to reflect and respect the dead. A time to remember that our freedom was bought with a price. Some think Remembrance Day is a time to renounce all war. Not so. It is a time to renounce injustice. It is also a time to rise above the past and move forward with respectful admiration of those who so nobly passed the torch on to us. Today the passion of Passchendaele is being choked unconscious by a sea of apathy and materialism.

Canada was intensely involved in WWI and WWII. Those were simple wars. Good versus evil. Many volunteered as a result. However, it is important to remember how Hitler conned the German people. He burned the German Parliament and blamed it on terrorists to seize power and become a dictator. Then he bombed a German radio station and blamed it on Poland to gain public support to invade Poland. http://finiansworld.blogspot.com/2008/09/history-of-faked-military-attacks.html

Those historical events are important to remember. There were many atrocities committed during the Holocaust and many are understandably bitter. Yet it is important to realize not all Germans knew what was going on. At first it was segregation. Then it was speculation. Then as Martin Niemoller describes, by the time it was known it was too late to stop it. http://www.serendipity.li/cda/niemoll.html

Likewise, there is much speculation of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Centre and many serious questions need to be answered. However, Operation Northwoods did exist. We need to remember who proposed it, who sustained it and who said no to it and what happened thereafter.

Ezra Taft Benson was a conspiracy theorist. His book, An Enemy Hath Done This describes what he felt to be the most dangerous enemy of all, the enemy within. Indeed his concerns have merit. Lest we forget history tends to repeat itself until we learn from it:

Ezra Taft Benson talks about speaking with an atheist murderer. Which is better a religious murderer or an atheist murderer? None. They are both one in the same. Although Ezra Taft Benson’s concerns with old style communism were valid, history has shown that the fear of communism has seen some pretty horrific things done by the Pentagon in the name of the end justifies the means.

The great and abominable church that pimps religion, exploits religion and distorts it beyond any sensible recognition is a campaign of evil to rationalize the next step – the removal of human rights. Thus the new boss becomes the same as the old boss as a tyrant is a tyrant regardless of the colour of his hat.

Lest we forget Poland. How Hitler invaded Poland based on a lie and how Stalin liberated Poland based on another lie. Both extremes are wrong. A religious murderer is no better than an atheist murder. Both extremes lead to tyranny. Short sighted knee jerk apathy needs to understand that because once our freedom is lost, blood will be spilt to bring it back. Lest we forget.

Tyranny is far more subtle than our apathy takes the time to consider. Remember Poland and the one-two punch of evil. Let’s not frantically defend against the first punch while we blindly ignore the second. Let us seek justice and shun extremism so that we may fulfill the dream. Word.
