Obama’s Cabinet

I’ve never heard of this before. Obama cites Lincoln and wants to appoint some republicans to his cabinet in a genuine attempt to reach out to all Americans: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article5167418.ece

That in my opinion is nothing short of amazing. That simply wouldn’t happen in Canada. Perhaps because of the way our system is framed with the non-confidence provision. It does however, appear to have been done before in the US on a token level. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/3448362/Barack-Obama-to-appoint-Republicans-to-key-cabinet-roles.html
.
In his acceptance speech Obama pointed out that although the US is currently divided, they are not as divided as they once were. He was referring to the time when America was recovering from the civil war back when the States were fiercely divided over the issue of slavery. Personally I cannot comprehend how someone would fight a war for the right to keep slaves but that’s just me.

Nevertheless when Obama said he wanted to reach out to all Americans in that they are more than a bunch of red states and a bunch of blue states in that they are the United States, he promised to listen to his political opponents. That is unprecedented. What a breath of fresh air.

Now the tables are turned. 51% is still not a mandate. Although Obama won many more seats than McCain, the popularity vote wasn’t that far apart. Nevertheless, it’s great to see Obama take the higher road unlike his predecessor.

Why do I like these photos so much?

Out with the old and in with the new. Three cheers.

Part of me says, "Scr_w the Republicans. Let them freeze in the dark". Actually all of me says, "Scr_w the Republicans. Let them freeze in the dark"!

True but every person and every party has good and bad. Balancing a budget is a good thing. Too bad the republicans can’t do that either. In Canada a minority government prevents any political party from racing ahead with it’s own agenda ignoring the will of everyone else.

George Bush got in with 51% of the vote and steam rolled ahead with the most extreme and fraudulent agenda in American history. OK he didn’t really win the elections with the voter fraud software and the proven Florida recount but you get what I mean. If 49% of the people feel strongly about something then that should be taken into consideration.

Taken into consideration that is, not blindly followed. If 49% of the people wanted slavery, I’d say screw em indeed. Cheers.
